A meter valve that leaks, seizes, or fails a turn test has to come out. The traditional fix is to shut off the service, swap the valve, purge, and relight every appliance in the building. That turns a ten-minute repair into a half-day job, and it often needs a second visit when the customer isn’t home.
The Mazco Meter Valve Changer lets a crew replace the valve while the service line stays pressurized. The customer keeps gas. No relights are needed.
Why shutoffs cost more than the valve
The valve itself is cheap. The shutoff is what drives cost:
- Relights. Every appliance downstream needs a relight and check. On a commercial service that can mean dozens.
- Access. If nobody is home, the crew can’t restore service and has to come back.
- Customer complaints. Unplanned outages generate calls, and in winter they become a safety issue.
- Crew time. Shutdown, purge, and restore steps add time to every job.
How the Meter Valve Changer works
The tool isolates the upstream side of the valve so the old valve can be removed and the new one installed without releasing gas from the service line.
- Install the changer on the existing valve.
- Isolate the line upstream of the valve with the tool. [Confirm wording for how the Mazco tool seals.]
- Remove the old valve through the tool.
- Install the new valve.
- Restore flow, remove the tool, and leak-test the connections.
